Qualification and Programme Overview
The Diploma in Health and Wellbeing (Level 5) Applied Practice has been designed to qualify advanced support workers who work closely and collaboratively with people and their whānau to support people with complex needs. As an applied practice diploma, there is a requirement to complete a minimum of 200 hours practical work and much of the evidence provided in your assessments will be drawn from authentic cases from your practice.
The diploma includes developing/recognising the following competencies:
- Being client-focused, working independently and continuously improving.
- Working alongside tangata whenua.
- Working with people from diverse cultures and backgrounds.
- Specific skills, knowledge, attributes, and statutory responsibilities required for the role.
- Understanding relevant developments in Aotearoa.
The diploma is unique in that it will support people working in a range of contexts or specialisations, thereby catering for multiple health and wellbeing sectors. However, the programme is not suitable for employees working in the aged care sector.
It is preferred that trainees enrolling on this programme have completed a relevant Level 4 qualification, or can demonstrate they have the experience, knowledge and skill at the required level, and be employed in a relevant role that aligns with one of the following contexts:

Each context has a set of competencies the learner will need to demonstrate through their practice and embed within their assessments. Careerforce’s learning and assessment facilitators will be able to discuss these with you once you have submitted your Expression of Interest.
